Manipur Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba on Thursday called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the abrogation of the SoO with Kuki militants and to get rid of narco-terrorists from Indian soil for the restoration of peace in the state.

In a statement, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba thanked the Union home minister for his visit to the state, stating that though there was widespread optimism and hope of a new beginning after the home minister left for New Delhi, the situation came back to square one as conflicts flared up in various pockets in the state.

In the beginning, it seemed to be a communal conflict, but now it has been established that the attacks are the handiworks of a well-orchestrated, pre-planned conspiracy of Kuki SoO militants and Myanmarese narco-terrorists infiltrating beyond the border and attacking the Meitei inhabited areas mainly at the foothills, he alleged.

He continued that instead of honouring the Union minister’s words about a peace initiative, such miscreants, armed with sophisticated weapons, are now emboldened and have started behaving like terrorists.

The killing of one BSF personnel and the injuring of two Assam Rifles Jawans on May 5 are acts of aggression challenging the might of India, and if their actions are left unchecked, they will become a threat to the unity and integrity of the country and national security, he added.

He stated that the illegal blockade of National Highway 2 by the Kuki is also creating untold misery for all the communities in the state. The abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militants and getting rid of foreign narco-terrorists from the soil of India is the only solution to this ongoing conflict, the MP stated.

He continued that the people of Manipur wished that the international border fencing be erected in the Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts neighbouring Myanmar at the earliest to discourage wilful infiltration.

“Just as the saying ‘Vox Populi Vox Dei’, we are simply humble servants of the people, and I am bound by the wishes of the people of the state,” he added.
