A shocking case of abduction and rape of a minor has led to the arrest and subsequent remand of a son and his mother in judicial custody.
The accused, one Md Nawaz (35) and his mother Safra (54) from Yairipok Heitroipokpi in Thoubal district, were presented before the Special Judge POCSO on Monday, who remanded the duo to judicial custody for 15 days.
The incident, which occurred on July 2, sent shockwaves through the community, prompting swift action by the authorities.
The sister and brother of the main accused were also apprehended on July 9 in connection with the case. While they had been serving a police custody period, they were released on bail after their appearance before the court on Monday.
Meanwhile, a large number of irate protesters, particularly women, gathered at the Thoubal Court Complex, who vehemently opposed the granting of bail to any of the accused.
They raised slogans demanding exemplary punishment for all those involved in the heinous crime.
The horrific nature of the crime has sparked off a call for justice from the community and the law enforcement agencies is under pressure to ensure a thorough investigation and trial, offering a sense of closure and justice to the victim and her family.
