The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) Tengnoupal District Committee observed the 57th Hunger Marchers’ Day under the theme, ‘Learn for Emancipation’ at Eastern Shine School Auditorium hall on Saturday.
Advisor and former president, AMSU, headquarters Th Suresh Singh; president Meitei Council Moreh M Thoiba Singh; president, AMSU, Tengnoupal District Committee N Tomba Meitei and president KNANL Th Ibemhal Leima attended as presidium members.
Offering of candle light and floral tributes to the martyrs marked the observation.
MCM president M Thoiba Singh expressed that the martyrs who laid down their lives for the state should be honoured in the highest platform. Following their message, the people of the state should be united as one and fight for it, he said.
“The past events should not be repeated in our present world. We should now educate our young generations for a better future. They are the pillars of the nation. As leaders, we should work for the betterment of our society,” he continued.
Th Suresh briefly highlighted the history of Hunger Marchers’ Day which took place in the year 1965. The students in the year 1965 jointly fought as one for the people of the state, he mentioned.
He suggested participation from every school student as this observation is not meant for a single community. AMSU in the larger context of the state has been fighting for the protection and preservation of Manipuri Language, AFSPA and ILPS. He also appealed for joint efforts in fighting for a unique and better state.
President AMSU Tengnoupal District Committee N Tomba Meitei highlighted the role and activities of AMSU in the history of Manipur. AMSU stands for the general issues of Manipur, he said. Several meira paibis, students and CSOs leaders attended the observation.
