A fierce gunbattle took place between suspected Kuki militants and village volunteers of Khurkhul Maning Makha Leikai in Imphal West at around 4.45 pm on Wednesday. Khurkhul Maning Makha Leikai is located under Sekmai police station, sources said.
Reports from the village said gunshots were fired from L Mulai village. The gunfight continued till 6.40 pm.
On hearing the news of the gunfight, the OC of Sekmai Police Station and police commando rushed to the spot.
Meanwhile, at least three civilians, including a 15-year-old boy, were reportedly injured following in a bomb blast that took place between Phoubakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta in Bishnupur district on Wednesday.
The incident happened around 7.20 pm when a bomb fitted in a Mahindra Scorpio exploded, sources said.
According to police, it is suspected that the bomb was fitted by Kuki militants. While the boy has been admitted to Raj Medicity with critical conditions, the other two have been admitted at District Hospital , Bishnupur.
In yet another incident, the Bomb Disposal Squad of the state police disposed of a lethode bomb at Kanto Sabal under the Sekmai police station on Wednesday around 2.30 pm which did not explode after it was allegedly fired by suspected Kuki militants.
According to sources, the bomb was fired by suspected Kuki militants at Kanto Sabal a few days ago but did not explode. The Bomb Disposal Squad of the state police retrieved the bomb around 2 pm and disposed it of around 2.30 pm at a safe place nearby, it added.
