Rajya Sabha MP Leishamba Sanajaoba on Wednesday said that it is only the Meetei/Meitei community which is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the Meeitei culture and traditions, and expressed his belief that more Meetei/Meitei will return to their indigenous religion Sanamahism.
Sanajaoba who is also the titular king of Manipur was speaking to the media during the oath-taking ceremony of Sanamahism of two renowned comedians Laishram Ranglila and Logjam Rajen. The event was held at Lainingthou Sanamahi Laishang, Hayingkhongban Uphong Yumpham located inside 1st MR campus in Imphal West.
He said, “We are not against any religion or judging any religion. We are just strengthening Sanamahism which is the religion followed by our Meetei/Meitei forefathers since time immemorial.”
Life time secretary of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) Sougrakpam Hemanta who converted to Sanamahism last year said that preserving one’s indigenous religion is a must in order to protect the identity, culture and tradition.
