More arms recovered during search operations in violence-hit Manipur

Three arms and six bombs were found during search operations conducted in several districts of both hill and valley.

A combined team of State Police and Central forces on Sunday recovered three arms and six bombs during search operations conducted in several districts of both hill and valley, sources said on Sunday. 

As per a statement issued by the Manipur Police Control Room, state police and Central forces conducted routine search operations in vulnerable and fringe areas in both hill and valley districts. 

It also said that police detained 217 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state. It mentioned that about 118 nakas/checkpoints are installed in different districts of the state, in both hill and valley and checking is intensified round the clock to prevent unwanted incidents.

Movement of essential items is ensured along National Highway-37 and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations above providing security convoy in sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of vehicles, it added.

The statement also said that the situation is tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing/congregation of unruly mobs but normal in most districts.  

It further appealed to the general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state, to clarify any rumour by dialling rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room, and also to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately.

Meanwhile, security forces rescued five civilians who were detained by some villagers in Gwaltabi and Urangpat area under Yaingangpokpi Police Station on Saturday. Police sources said they have been handed over to the officer-in-charge, Yaingangpokpi Police station. 

In another incident, a combined team of CRPF and Jiribam district police on Saturday detained one person in possession of explosives during frisking and checking at Uchathol Village. According to police, 0.722 kg of explosives suspected to be ammonium nitrate fuel oil (AMNF), 5 metres and 79 cm of cordex wire and one motorcycle avenger bearing registration number AS11X9771 were seized from him.
