The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur unit, on Saturday alleged the Narendra Modi-led BJP government of favouring the rich corporate owners by taxing the public and hiking the petrol and diesel prices.
A release issued by secretary of AITUC, Manipur State Committee, A Saratchandra stated that the BJP government’s initiative of hiking the prices of petroleum products and indirectly taxing the public, while decreasing the taxes of the rich corporate owners, is a solid evidence that the Modi-led BJP government is not a people-centric government as they claimed to be.
The corporate favouring the economic policies of PM Modi has proven to be of great adversity to the people below poverty line and the middle class citizens, it stated.
The unrelenting increase in petrol and diesel prices has greatly affected transportation which in turn resulted in the increase in the prices of other daily necessities, it added.
Recalling the quote, “Acche din aane wale hein”, which roughly translated to “Good days are coming”, which PM Modi made during the Lok Sabha Election, AITUC accused the PM for turning a deaf ear to the public’s grievances.
It stated that though the chief ministers of many BJP governed states claimed that the BJP government had brought upon many positive changes in our country which includes increasing the living standard of the people, India is among the world’s hungriest countries, according to the World Food Organisation.
It further stated that despite the government’s claims for their reasons for the increase in the price of petroleum products, the public should pay heed to the fact that the government did nothing to reconsider the price hike of the petroleum products even during the decrease in the taxes of crude oil.
