A large number of men reportedly stormed the 2nd MR in Kabo Leikai, Imphal West, and the 9th IRB Mahila Battalion to seize weapons but failed to do so on Monday.
As per sources, the mob came from different sides and stormed the 2nd MR main gate around 8 am but failed due to the strict vigilance of the security forces. The mob later went to the 9th IRB Mahila Battalion in Khuman Lampak but also failed to grab the weapons as there were no weapons in the battalion.
Upon receiving information that attempts were made to take weapons from the police, SP Imphal West S Ibomcha carried out frisking at Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak in Imphal, sources said.
The mob again went to the 2nd MR main gate and tried to enter the complex, but 2nd MR CO Y Victoria told the mob to return as there were no weapons in the complex.
However, the mob stayed at the gate.
Imphal West Commando OC P Achouba arrived at the spot at around 9 am and started dispersing the mob. The Rapid Action Force and SP IW fired tear gas shells to disperse them.
