In the wake of the attempt to siphon off PDS (public distribution system) rice, five MLAs of Churachandpur district on Thursday jointly inspected the IFC godown located at Tualnuam in Churachandpur district.
The MLAs of Churachandpur AC, Tipaimukh AC, Thanlon AC, Singngat AC and Henglep AC, accompanied by Churachandpur SP, Addl DC and other officials visited the godown and took stock of the situation.
They assured to monitor the rice distribution system at the six assembly constituencies of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts. The MLAs also told the police superintendant to set up a vigilance team in coordination with the deputy commissioner for smooth distribution of PDS rice to the people.
An attempt was made to siphon off huge quantities of PDS rice on 21 March, 2023 and this could be the reason leading to the vigil of the MLAs of the two districts.
The depot in charge of IFC godown, Salminlun, on being asked, said that as an agency of the Centre government their duty was to stock and allocate rice base on release order by the government and their duty ends after they weighted and delivered rice to agent.
Siphoning or malpractices, that may happen, was not their duty as they have computerised records which was periodically submitted to their main office and hence, the problem of distribution was not their concern or duty, Salminlun said.
