Y Erabot, MLA, Wangkhei Assembly constituency, along with Kakching MLA M Rameshwar and seven others on Thursday joined the National People's Party (NPP). All of them were announced as NPP candidates following their joining ceremony that was held in the presence of NPP national president Conrad K Sangma at the NPP office, Iroisemba in Imphal West.
“Considering the present state of affairs, I have lost faith in BJP and JD-U. I joined the NPP, which is purely dedicated to the people of Northeast, to serve my people for the rest of my life,” Erabot said.
He alleged that all the JD-U candidates who were rejected by the BJP are all the projected candidates of Chief Minister N Biren and former MLA Govindas Konthoujam. “There is a big conspiracy behind all this,” Erabot added.
Reacting to the direction given to an IPS officer by Manipur Lokayukta to probe into a case of funds misappropriation allegedly involving Tamenglong ADC officials and members, including BJP candidate Dinganglung Gangmei, Erabot said, "Issuing of warrant against the BJP candidate of Nungba assembly constituency Dinganglung Gangmei is a clear cut proof that BJP is a ‘corrupted party,".
Erabot contested the 2017 election of Manipur from the BJP ticket; however, he lost to former Congress MLA O Henry. Following a judgment passed by the High Court of Manipur on April 15, 2021, Henry was lifted off from the MLA seat, declaring his election as null and void and Erabot was as the MLA of Wangkhei.
Erabot was aspiring for the BJP ticket in the upcoming election, but unfortunately the BJP ticket of Wangkhei was allotted to Henry, who joined the party in 2021.
