Keirao MLA L Rameshwor on Thursday pledged the restoration of Meitei temples that have been destroyed in the unrest in Manipur.
The announcement comes following the MLA's visit to the revered Kongba Maru shrine in Imphal East, where he sought blessings and discussed his commitment with the media.
He was among the hundreds of devotees who thronged to the sacred shrine after successfully clearing off Kuki militants from the area.
The MLA said that the ongoing crisis had witnessed wanton destruction of numerous shrines and temples by the Kuki militant groups.
Highlighting the cultural significance of Meitei temples, Rameshwor emphasised that every Meitei household holds the essence of a temple and that the destruction of these houses equates to the loss of a temple.
The MLA's views signified the deeply rooted spiritual connection that Meitei society holds with its architectural heritage.
Announcing the comprehensive plans for the restoration of the destroyed Meitei temples once normalcy is restored to the region, the MLA highlighted some notable sites including the temples at Mt Koubru in Kangpokpi, Mt Thangjing in Bishnupur, and Kongdon Leirenbi in the border town of Moreh.
Apart from his commitment to temple restoration, Rameshwor also discussed the efforts of the state government to combat the menace of narco-terrorism in Manipur.
He underlined the grave threat that narco-terrorism poses to the youth of the nation and stressed the government's determination to eradicate this menace from Manipur's soil.
