Minister Awangbow Newmai inspects river banks

A committee will soon be formed to look into dumping of waste in river, said Manipur Water Resource and Relief Minister Awangbow Newmai.

Manipur Water Resource and Relief Minister Awangbow Newmai on Monday inspected the riverbanks from Kangpokpi to Koirengei and declared that steps will be taken to evict illegal encroachers along the river.

During the visit, Newmai said that the main objective of the visit is pertaining to the original application 673/2018 of National Green Tribunal. He also visited Kangpokpi Ward No 1,2,15 and 16 where waste dumping is taking place directly on the Imphal River.

He said that a committee will soon be formed to look into the matter, and it will be comprised of the WR department, DC Kangpokpi and the state department of Environment.

The ministerial team was accompanied by DC Kangpokpi Kengoo Zuringla, chief engineer WRD, Songput N Albert, joint director department of Environment DR T Brajakumar, engineers of WR department, and other officials of the department, EO Kangpokpi ADC and Secretary Town Committee, Kangpokpi District (DIPR).
