MHRC team inspects old age homes

MHRC chairperson Justice UB Saha advised the functionary of Senior Citizens Home to help the aged persons in approaching relevant authorities so that they can seek their benefits.

A team of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) led by chairman Justice UB Saha along with IGP, Mamata Wahengbam and Law Office inspected old age homes located at Imphal East district.

The MHRC team interacted with the inmates who are lodged at Senior Citizens Home at Kongba and Bashikhong Kitapanung.

The team enquired about the welfare schemes meant for senior citizens and it was informed that old age pensions are provided to some of the eligible inmates.

The team also found that some aged persons, including a resident of Moreh who fled from their homes due to communal violence were staying there.
