Six valley-based student bodies of the state on Wednesday strongly condemned the nine Meitei MLAs for submitting a separate memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The student bodies stated that such a ‘reckless’ move which seemed to be founded on vested political interest was uncalled for when unity among all legislatures was crucial to resolve the ongoing issue.
Speaking to media at Manipur Students’ Federation office, Imphal, spokesperson of the body Sukham Bidyananda asserted that the points mentioned in the memorandum highlighted the vested political agendas of the nine MLAs.
The memorandum calls for the Centre to intervene and implement a ‘special measure’ to restore ‘Rule of Law’ in Manipur, he said, questioning if they are losing faith in the state government. If not, why is a ‘special measure’ from the Centre needed to restore administrative functions in Manipur, he further questioned.

He expressed disappointment over the nine MLAs for their reckless insertion in the memorandum and questioned if they were trying to invoke President’s Rule in Manipur or striving to break the state governance.
“Instead of collectively voicing concerns to the Central government, the legislatures within the administration are busy nitpicking for political mileage,” he said.
Hence, he demanded the nine MLAs to tender an apology for their alleged blunder and cautioned that they would be held responsible if President’s Rule was invoked in Manipur.
He pointed out that now was not the time for political bickering and fights within the state government.
All MLAs, regardless of ruling or opposition lines, should strive collectively to resolve the ongoing crisis in Manipur, he added.
The nine signatory MLAs in the memorandum include MLA of Heirok constituency Th Radheshyam, MLA of Keishamthong constituency Nishikant Sapam, MLA of Uripok constituency Kh Raghumani, MLA of Wangjing constituency S Brojen, MLA of Thanga constituency T Robindro, MLA of Lamsang constituency S Rajen, MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa S Kebi and MLA of Hiyanglam constituency Y Radheshyam.
