A distressing incident has come to light involving the alleged gang rape of a Meitei woman by unknown miscreants in Churachandpur district on May 3, the day the ethnic clash of the state began.
The day marked a solidarity rally that took a violent turn, triggering the ongoing unrest in Manipur.
The victim, a 37-year-old married woman currently displaced at a relief camp, filed a complaint of gang rape with the Bishnupur Women police station on Wednesday night.
Responding promptly, the police lodged a zero FIR and arranged for a medical examination of the survivor.
The case has now been transferred to the Churachandpur Women police station as the incident occurred within its jurisdiction.
While the investigation is underway, there have been no reports of any suspects being apprehended in connection with this heinous crime.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 3, amid a chaotic situation when armed Kuki militants and a large Kuki mob were involved in arson activities at Khumujamba Meitei Leikai in Churachandpur.
The victim attempted to flee the mob but unfortunately fell victim to a gang of unidentified miscreants who subjected her to a horrifying ordeal, as per report. Disturbingly, this incident marks the second reported gang rape case amid the ongoing violence in Manipur.
However, in the first case, which involved a naked parade, the victims clarified to the media that no rape had occurred.
