The names of Meitei villages in Moreh have been changed to Kuki village names after all the Meiteis living in Moreh were evacuated following the clash that broke out on May 3.
The names of Meitei villages being changed to names in Kuki dialect came to light when health cards under PMJAY scheme were distributed to 139 beneficiaries at a relief camp located at Ideal Girls College on August 15.
It is informed that new health cards were filled up under Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) for stranded people from Moreh and Churachandpur wherein they put in their original village names of Moreh in the forms. However, when they received the health cards, they realised that the names of their villages have been changed to that of Kuki village names.
Those Meitei villages’ names changed are Turen Wangma Leikai to Chikim village; Khunou Leikai to T Yangom; Bazar Leikai to D Monaphai and Heinoumakhong to Chikim village.
Regarding the incident, MLA RK Imo tweeted that he confirmed with the state government and found that these are PMJAY cards based on SECC 2011.
He stated that CM Biren has instructed the officials to bring all the copies of the cards with wrong data to be rectified on immediate basis. Government has also instructed to enquire and take action against erring officials involved in changing the address, the MLA said.
