Meitei-Pangal civil bodies strongly appeal against rumors

United Meitei Pangal Committee Manipur (UMPCM) co-convenor Tyebur Rahman Leishangkhong appealed to the state government to take necessary action through its cybercrime cell against those who are spreading rumors that could create communal tensions.

Meitei-Pangal civil bodies on Wednesday made a fervent appeal not to spread rumors in connection with the Lilong Chingjao, Thoubal district shooting incident, raising grave concerns that it could mislead the people to incite communal violence.

United Meitei Pangal Committee Manipur (UMPCM) co-convenor Tyebur Rahman Leishangkhong told the media at Hatta Golapati, Imphal East that unfounded rumors surfaced on social media, following the Lilong Chingjao shooting incident in which five succumbed to bullet injuries and many left injured.

It is unfortunate that some individuals are giving negative comments in response to these various rumors that surfaced on social media. He further said that some individuals are trying to get political mileage out of these rumors. He cautioned to avoid “such cheap political games as the impact could be serious among the various communities of Manipur.”

He further appealed to the state government to take necessary action through its cybercrime cell against those who are spreading rumors that could create communal tensions.

Meitei Pangal Council Manipur president Haji Arafat Ali Tampak condemned the shooting of Lilong Chingjao incident at the strongest terms and condemned the spread of rumors that could spark communal tensions among Meitei and Meitei-Pangal communities.

The people of Manipur have been supporting the initiatives launched by the Biren-led government such as the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign and will be supporting the campaign in future, he said. He appealed to stop using drugs, selling and supporting drug sellers, kingpins and drug mafias.

He said any CSOs or government machineries should cooperate with the respective local clubs or bodies if they wanted to conduct drives against drugs.

He further appealed to all the sections of the society to cooperate with each other while fighting the drug menace.
