Mega legal awareness camp held across Manipur

The legal awareness camp in Imphal West provided various public services such as enrolment of Aadhaar cards, labour cards, CMHT Medical Check-ups E-Court services, among others.

As part of the nationwide campaign, ‘Empowerment of citizens through legal awareness’, a legal awareness camp was held at various districts of Manipur on Sunday.

District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West in collaboration with DC, Imphal West organised a legal awareness cum Mega Beneficiary Camp for the people of Imphal West at Kuranganayani Hall, DC, Imphal West Office Complex, Lamphelpat on Sunday.

The camp provided various public services such as enrolment of Aadhaar cards, labour cards, CMHT Medical Check-ups E-Court services, consultation by Forest department, counselling by Social Welfare department on child abuse and violence against Women, legal counselling and legal aid services, and assistance on various government schemes, facilities etc.

The legal awareness programme was led by District and Sessions Judge, Imphal West cum chairman of District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West A Guneshwar Sharma, in the presence of Janggoulen Haokip, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West cum secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West; AC to DC, Imphal West Gopal Laishram and Ksh Shivakanta Singh, Superintendent of Police, Imphal.

The mega beneficiary camp was inaugurated by A Guneshwar Sharma and followed inspection of the stalls.

In Tamenglong and Noney district, a mega legal awareness camp for ‘Empowerment of Citizens through Legal Awareness and Outreach- A pan India campaign’ has been jointly organised by District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong and District Administration, Noney under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority and National Legal Services Authority at Multipurpose Hall, Longmai Part III, Noney district.

The programme was attended by District and Sessions Judge, Tamenglong cum chairman, DLSA Tamenglong N Rajnikanta; deputy commissioner, Noney Joseph Pauline Kamson; chairman, Villages Council Longmai Area, Noney Adai Dangmei; assistant commandant of 10 Assam Rifles, Noney K Rojen Singh and personnel of 10 Assam Rifles; police personnel of Noney Police Station, villagers, including women, senior citizens and youth etc.

For the camp, the departments of government of Manipur namely, District Social Welfare Department, government of Manipur; Juvenile Justice Boards, Tamenglong and Noney; Child Welfare Committees, Tamenglong and Noney; District Child Protection Unit, Tamenglong and Noney; District Police, Noney; Forest Department, Noney; One Stop Centre, Noney have joined the camp by installing their respective stalls.

As a part of the camp, a legal awareness programme has also been organised.

Additional Superintendent of Police (LO), Noney, Namsadai Peter spoke on the topic ‘Procedures for filing complaint or lodging FIR in police station’. Advocate, Ch Momon spoke on the topic, ‘Rights of arrested persons and suspects and Victim Compensation Scheme’. Assistant professor of department of Law, Manipur University, Th Tapasini Devi spoke on the topic ‘Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties’. Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials are also distributed for spreading legal awareness.

In Chandel district, District Legal Services Authority, Chandel under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority organised a mega legal awareness camp as a part of ‘NALSA’s Empowerment of citizen through Legal Awareness and outreach campaign’ at Teraphai Village, Tengnoupal district.

A total of 231 beneficiaries from various villages in the district were benefited with free CMHT, PMJAY, drafting of affidavits, e-shram cards, etc.
