The Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) submitted a representation to the Union Finance Minister of India regarding the genuine issues and hardships being faced by the general public at large and professional consultants in making time bound compliances in Manipur.

MCCI, in their representation, said that the chamber, on behalf of all the genuine businessmen, professionals and all other stakeholders of the state, made a special request to move the Union Finance Ministry, CBDT, Corporate Affairs Ministry and other appropriate authorities for getting the dates extended for all compliances under the Income Tax act, GST, Company Law and all other acts in view of the prevailing uncertainty in the state caused by the recent unfortunate developments.

It mentioned about the prevailing abnormal and unusual situation in the state caused by the recent unfortunate developments has put us all in a terrible situation which has led to the disruption of the day to day normal life of everyone and has thrown all the official work in a turmoil as a result of which all the compliances under various acts more particularly under the income tax act, GST and Company law are all pending and the consequences of which may be far reaching for the general tax payers at large.

It further added that as a result of the existing situation the delay in time bound compliances is unavoidable and hence requires intervention from the Finance Minister’s office for the general convenience and ease for all the genuine taxpayers and the professional bodies and all other stakeholders.

It also mentioned how the ban on internet services has greatly affected the committed professionals as it is practically not possible to upload the documents within the prescribed time limit.

MCCI expressed the need for immediate and urgent intervention from the minister’s office to take care of this issue so that no extra levy is faced by the genuine taxpayers by way of late fees and penalties which may lead to the increase in the hardships and genuine difficulties of all the stakeholders.

It also recalled that there have been instances and precedents in the past where special reliefs have been provided to state/states hit by any disaster or natural calamity for the general benefit of the public and our state at this hour is no exception to that and hence deserves that special relief by all yardstick.
