In an effort to assist the internally displaced people affected by the ongoing unrest in the state, the Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Monday handed over relief materials to the inmates of relief camps in Imphal East district.
The MCCI's gesture was facilitated through the Imphal East DC Kh Diana at her office complex at Porompat.
According to official reports obtained from the Imphal East DC office, as many as 605 houses and 11 shops have been set ablaze within the jurisdiction of Sawombung, Keirao Bitra, and Porompat sub-divisions in Imphal East during this ongoing unrest.
This unfortunate incident has resulted in the displacement of numerous individuals. At present, there are a total of 35 relief camps established across Imphal East District, providing shelter to approximately 6,300 internally displaced individuals who have been affected by the recent unrest.
The relief materials donated by the MCCI in the first phase consisted of surgical items amounting to Rs. 2.2 lakh, which were handed over to JNIMS. Continuing their support, the MCCI has now provided additional relief items to the displaced individuals.
The relief materials presented on Monday included mattresses, bed sheets, blankets, mosquito nets, and water storage containers, with a total value of approximately Rs 1.7 lakh.
DC Daina expressed her appreciation to the MCCI team, acknowledging their significant support to the state government in meeting the needs of the displaced individuals.
She further informed that the distributed items would primarily benefit those who are expected to stay in the relief camps for an extended period and the distribution process will be carried out by the respective SDOs and other officials responsible for the relief camps.
