All India Forward Bloc - Manipur State Committee on Thursday announced that the party would take out a mass hunger strike from December 11 in front of the Prime Minister’s office and the Parliament if both the state and central government failed to stop the present imbroglio and anarchic surge in Manipur within 20 days.

The party exhorted like-minded political parties, individuals and groups to take part in the strike.

In light of the ongoing crisis, the party submitted a six-point memorandum to the Prime Minister through the governor and the chief minister on Thursday.

Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, state secretary of the state committee Khomdram Gyaneswor stated that the centre had failed to enact a single feasible action oriented policy to stop the pain and suffering which has engulfed the state for the last 590 days.

“Numerous memorandums have been submitted, countless protests have been taken out but to no effect,” he said.

As such, he highlighted that the party would take out an initial hunger strike during the parliament session which will be convened shortly.

But the December 11 hunger strike will be a continuous agitation, he added.

He expressed discontentment over the centre and state government’s lack of proactive response to resolve the prolonged issue and maintained that the centre’s disregard mixed with state government’s cowardly demeanor will only prolong the crisis.

“We know resolving the crisis will take time but a progressive initiative is the need of the hour as such we demand authorities to come up with such an initiative within 20 days,” he said.

He also expressed suspicion that the prolonged crisis was a state sponsored proxy war to achieve a hidden political agenda.

The six points included in the memorandum are to take strict and honest measures to stop violence, to stop free movements of the individuals with arms, to unarm all cadres under SoO and check their movements in buffer zones, arrange dialogue with all stakeholders to restore peace, device plan and policy for permanent settlement of the displaced families and deliver immediate one time financial relief packages not less than Rs 1 lakh to each displaced family.
