In commemoration of the supreme sacrifice made by inspector T Alex Lalminlun on April 1, 2019 at the Indo-Pakistan border in Kashmir, a Martyr Statue and Memorial Stone unveiling ceremony was held on Wednesday at his native village of Tuaitengphai, Churachandpur district.
Commandants of BSF/STC, church leaders, tribe leaders, relatives and villagers besides other well-wishers attended the event.
The event commenced with reverend father Stephen Baite unveiling the headstone of T Alex Lalminlun at his grave after which wreaths were led on his tomb by commandant of BSF/STC, Rajesh Kumar Mishra along with other officials, widow of the late martyr and his 5-year-old son amongst others.
A programme followed during which commandant Rajesh Kumar Mishra unveiled the headstone of the late soldier. Additional SP (Opp.) and Add SP (L/O), Churachandpur along with leaders from various civil bodies were also present during the unveiling ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Kumar Mishra said, “It is a source of pride that this part of the world had a son in Alex, who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.”
Promising that BSF will always be there to help his widow and family, he said that the BSF had always given its best under extreme circumstances, and the death of Alex is an example of one of them.
Alex sacrificed his life for the ethos and values the BSF stands for as a pillar of democracy, he continued adding that he feels sad seeing tears falling from the eye of the martyr’s widow but this kind of sacrifice will never go in vain.
It may be mentioned here that T Alex Lalminlun joined the BSF (168 Bn.) as a sub-inspector in 2011 and was promoted to the rank of inspector in 2017. He served at a BSF post in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, and was on duty when he got hit by a shell splinter fired by Pakistani soldiers.
Following the incident, Alex was airlifted for treatment but he later succumbed to his injuries at Udhampur Military Hospital. T Alex Lalminlun is currently survived by his wife Ruthy Khollalngai, 5-year-old son Jeremy Lammuansang, his parents and four brothers.
