Market leaders ask Governor to restore peace in Manipur

Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee representatives called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Tuesday and apprised the prevailing situation in the aftermath of the ethnic clash between the Meitei and Kuki communities that broke out on May 3.

In a release on Tuesday, the Governor’s secretariat, Raj Bhavan, said that they made a sincere request to the Governor to restore peace and tranquillity in the state and to make arrangements to return the displaced people who have been taking shelter in different relief camps of both valley and hill districts to their respective places.

The governor advised them to extend their fullest cooperation to the security forces who are discharging their responsibilities to contain the situation and restore normalcy in the state. She also reiterated that the state has been experiencing untold miseries for the last two months which are really affected in all spheres, it added.

The governor further reiterated that she has kept informed the prime minister about the fateful incident and requested to extend all possible help to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

Commander, 25 BRTF, Colonel Atul Kumar also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and apprised her of the progress of fencing of the India-Myanmar Border and the further work of fencing.

The governor advised the commander to get the work expedited mainly to contain the illegal activities in the border areas as well as sneaking of insurgents and anti-social elements into the state from neighbouring countries.

The governor also discussed this prevailing situation with Dr Th Meinya Singh, former member of Parliament, Lok Sabha. She informed him of the common programme of actions already taken up/proposed to be taken up by the Central and State governments to bring peace and tranquility in the state at the earliest.
