Braving the sweltering heat in the national capital New Delhi, hundreds of Meira Paibi, under the aegis of the Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (AMPL), Thongju and Khwairamband Ema Keithel Joint Committee for Peace held a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Monday over the ongoing conflict in Manipur.

Students and people from various walks of life took part in the protest organised by the Meira Paibis, a women's group, in an effort to draw the Union Government's attention to the crisis in Manipur.

The Maira Paibis appealed to the Union government to stop the "divide and rule policy" in Manipur and demanded restoration of normalcy in the strife-torn state at the earliest.

They pointed out that the present conflict in the state was not between the Meetei and the Kuki communities, but external elements that used Manipur as their ground to push narrow and sectarian political agendas.

Questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Manipur crisis, the protesters raised several slogans during the protest such as "Revoke SoO, No ethnic-based law in Manipur, No separate administration in Manipur, Save indigenous people of Manipur, Manipur highway still blocked by Kuki militants, Why is PM Modi still silent on the Manipur issue".
