Manipurl CPI releases election manifesto with 36 pledges

The Manipur CPI manifesto mentioned that the party will put all possible efforts to address unemployment issues of the state, to regularise contract and muster roll employees and implement minimum wages.

The Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) on Tuesday released its election manifesto at Irawat Bhawan for the ensuing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election with the promises to retain the special status of Manipur.

The election manifesto consists of 36 points, covering various sections, including to amend Article 3 of the Constitution, to protect unity and integrity of Manipur by inserting more provisions, to end long pending Indo-Myanmar border issues, to urged government of India to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

Addressing the function, state secretary, CPI/MSC, L Sotinkumar said that with an objective of bringing at least some changes in the state, the election manifesto is being released. He said that they expect to win at least one seat out of the two candidates fielding from the party.

He said that the state is encountering numerous issues for the past many years since the merger of the state with Indian union. CPI/MSC has been taking up various steps and movement to transform Manipur and address all such long ending issues.

The party will put all possible efforts to address unemployment issues of the state, to regularise contract and muster roll employees and implement minimum wages, he assured.

CPI candidate RK Amusana, who is going to fight election from Khurai assembly constituency, said that it is very heart-breaking to see the present corruption level and drug menace in the state. Spending of huge amount of money at the time of election by candidates indirectly proves that Manipur has become a place of drug business. It also shows how leaders might be corrupted, he added.

“Candidate would not spend crores of rupees if all the money are earned through hard work,” he claimed. He said that CPI has launched anti-corruption movement in 1980s. Such will and aspirations still exists till date. As such the movement will continue if he is being elected in upcoming election, Amusana said.

Some other promises made in the election manifesto are to deploy Highway Protection Force in national highway 37 and 39, to get support and ideas from Manipuri diaspora settling in developed states and countries to bring development in the state, to pressurise implementation of ‘The Manipur Peoples’ Protection Bill’, to take up initiative to address inconveniences faces by Manipuri diaspora settling in Bangladesh, Myanmar and other neighbouring states, to provide unemployment allowance of amount Rs 2000 to unemployed youth, to establish separate directorate for schedule caste community, to earmark separate budget for the promotion of tribal culture and dialects.

The manifesto also mentioned about providing allowance to senior citizens who are above 60 years with an amount of Rs 3000, to set up welfare board for muslim community and so on.

It may be mentioned that CPI is among left parties that formed pre poll alliance with Congress party.
CPI is all set to field two candidates such as RK Amusana from Khurai Assembly Constituency and Yengkhom Roma Devi from Kakching Constituency.
