Manipuri diaspora in Assam to extend aid in affected areas of Manipur

Five members of Apunba Jaribon Tengbang Lup, Hailakandi Assam are presently in Manipur.

Apunba Jaribon Tengbang Lup, a conglomerate of 33 Meitei villages from Jaribon, Assam, has assured that the Manipuri diaspora in Assam would continue to extend aid in affected areas of Manipur and also provide relief materials to displaced people in several relief camps.

The group also added that several Manipuri bodies from Assam had voiced concerns and submitted several joint memorandums to the central authorities to initiate peace-building measures and restore normalcy in Manipur.

Speaking to media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul on Friday, general secretary Lourembam Joykanta highlighted that several Manipuri student and civil bodies, including All Assam Manipuri Students Union, Dimasa Students Union, Karbi Students Union and many more, had conducted various joint discussions and appealed to authorities concerned to transition Manipur to normalcy.

“The Manipuri bodies in Assam are appalled by the terror attacks which have taken place in Manipur and condemn the unprovoked outburst of violence from terror groups. Hence, our only objective at the moment is to assure peace returns in Manipur,” he said.

He also informed that the Manipuri local bodies in Jaribon, Assam had also submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through the deputy commissioner of Hailakandi, Assam.

Concerning the group’s visit in Manipur, Joykanta highlighted the group planned to visit several violence-hit areas in the valley and relief camps during which they will distribute relief materials and strive to impart the message of peace amongst the people.

He pointed out that the group arrived in Imphal on Wednesday and will stay for around seven days. We visited those undergoing treatment at RIMS the very next day after we arrived and contributed funds for their treatment, he said.

He further appealed to all indigenous communities in Manipur to promote peace, unity and cordial relations and strive collectively to protect the state’s territorial space.

Altogether five members of Apunba Jaribon Tengbang Lup, Hailakandi Assam are presently in Manipur.
