As many as 128 scheme workers left Imphal on Saturday to join nationwide protests on March 28 at Jantar Mantar, Delhi to protest against government policies.
A joint forum of central trade unions had called for a nationwide strike on Tuesday and Wednesday to protest against government policies affecting workers, farmers, and people.
Speaking to the media, CPI secretary L Sotinkumar said that the protest will be held against “the anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people and anti-national policies” of the Central government.
The protest is going to be historic and it will involve up to 25 crore (250 million) working people.
There is a 12-point charter demand, for which workers and laborers have been fighting for the past several years, he said.
The last two years have seen further deterioration of the living standards of working people due to the pandemic and the ill-conceived measures taken by the government, he said.
