Manipur: Women decry move to remove state force

Women of Moirangpurel demand for deployment of other state force teams before removing the personnel who deployed in the area.

Women of Moirangpurel have locked the gate of a police island post posted at Khunou area of Moirangpurel demanding not to remove state force from the post, as the area is a sensitive zone.

According to the SP of Imphal East noticed, detailment of police officers and men of Imphal East district including MR/IRB/police of other districts or unit presently allotted to Imphal East due to prevailing law and order situation in the state to maintain law and order and also to thwart any attempt by the anti-social elements to indulge in violent activities, withdrawn from duty with immediate effect.

Reacting to the notice, on Wednesday, Moirangpurel women came out and locked the gate of a building where state police are staying.

The SP order was issued on March 26 to withdraw all personnel deployed in Imphal East district. It stated that armed personnel deployed at Sabungkhok Khunou under Yairipok PS were personnel of Ukhrul district; armed personnel deployed at Moirangpurel under Thoubal Dam PS were personnel of Ukhrul district.

A woman, Sangita Hijam of Moirangpurel told the media that Moirangpurel area is a very sensitive zone at any time an attack from Kuki militants can take place.

During the conflict, Moirangpurel people were protected by state force.

“We deny the state government order of withdrawing them from the area. If the state government wants to remove them then the government should provide another state force team in the area. Until the state provides another team, the villagers will not allow deployed personnel to move out from the station”, she added.
