Wabagai assembly constituency MLA Usham Deben visited the flood-hit areas within his constituency in Kakching district on Thursday, and assured the residents that the Manipur government is currently in discussions with the District Administration to coordinate relief efforts and provide necessary assistance.
MLA U Deben said that the recent incessant rainfall had caused breaches in several areas along the Sekmai River Bank and many were submersed by the overflowing water in Wabagai constituency.
He urged the community to cooperate with ongoing government-led flood prevention projects along the riverbanks, maintaining the importance of these efforts in mitigating future flood risks.
The MLA was accompanied by Kakching Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand, SDO Kakching Ingocha, Salam Dhanabir of the Keirak Wabagai Zilla Parishad Administrative Committee, and several other officials during the visit.
On the other hand, despite the ongoing efforts by various clubs and organisations of Kakching and Tekcham to clear the landslide debris in Chingkakpi/Chingkakpham since Wednesday morning, progress has been hampered due to the lack of access to the affected area.
However, the debris is expected to be cleared by Friday morning. It is also anticipated that floodwaters in Kakching, Tekcham, Sora, Irengband, and other affected areas may begin to recede after clearing the debris.
In the meantime, Kakching Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand visited the landslide site and assured residents that the district administration would extend all possible assistance to flood victims through the flood relief fund. He also praised the local community for their swift response to the disaster.
