Manipur Violence: Two killed in clashes in Imphal East

One AK 47 rifle and a folding INSAS rifle were recovered.

At least two Kuki militants were killed in clashes between two armed groups at Itham Moirangpurel under Maphou Dam police station in Imphal East district, Manipur at around noon Saturday.

According to reports, well armed Kuki militants began raining bullets and bombs from Kamu Saichang towards the villages of Tumukhong and Itham Moirangpurel, to which village volunteers based at the villages retaliated.

In the resulting clashes, two Kukis were killed whose bodies were found lying at Kamu Ching at around noon. Two arms, one AK 47 rifle and a folding INSAS rifle were recovered from them by the village volunteers.

Upon hearing of the clashes, Imphal East police commandos rushed to the spot and took up security measures.

The clashes continued till evening, the reports added.

It may be mentioned that clashes between the village volunteers in the fringe villages of the valley and Kuki militants erupted once again on Thursday evening at Pelyang village under Machi Police station in Tengnoupal district in which three village volunteers were injured.
