A body, believed to be that of 25-year-old Laishram Heitombi Devi, was pulled from the Barak River on Monday in the Nungai area of Singerband Part-4, Lakhipur.

The discovery brings the total number of bodies recovered from the river in the past week to six, fueling growing concerns that the deaths may be connected to the recent spate of violence in the region.

It is reported that the local fishermen first spotted the body, which was later retrieved by a team from the Lakhipur Police Station.

The discovery follows the recovery of two other bodies the day before, including that of a woman and a child, found in separate incidents in the same river.

Over the past several days, the recovery of the bodies has sparked widespread public speculation.

Many are fearing that the bodies belong to the six women and children who were reportedly abducted by suspected Kuki militants during a violent attack in Jiribam on November 11.

However, authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the bodies, including the one recovered on Monday. The government has also remained silent on whether any of the bodies belong to the missing women and children, leaving the families and the public in a state of uncertainty.

The ongoing situation has triggered outrage among the people of Manipur, who are demanding urgent answers from the government and accountability for the ongoing violence in the region.
