At least nine persons were killed while 10 village volunteers were left injured in an attack by assailants at Khamenlok area of Khundrakpam assembly constituency, under Imphal East district on Tuesday night around 10.30 pm.

The assailants suspected to be Kuki militants with sophisticated weapons targeted approximately 25 individuals who were defending their villages in the Khamenlok area, leading to the death of the nine civilians who were guarding villages while 10 village volunteers sustained bullet injuries. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity and RIMS in Imphal.
