Manipur Violence: Gun battle erupts in Koutruk

The militants reportedly launched the attack around 3 pm, firing 2-3 rounds towards the village first, sources stated.

Village volunteers of Koutruk Ching Leikai under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal West district in Manipur exchanged gunfire with suspected Kuki militants on Wednesday after the latter launched attacks at the village.

The militants reportedly launched the attack around 3 pm, firing 2-3 rounds towards the village first, sources stated. However, the village volunteers did not fire back.

Shortly after, the militants fired again at Koutruk Ching Leikai for the second time around 3.30 pm, to which the village volunteers resorted to retaliatory firing.

Sources also mentioned that Kuki militants reportedly deployed a drone at Koutruk around 11 pm on Tuesday. Another drone was sighted in the village around 4 am on Wednesday, sources added. The unprovoked attacks by Kuki militants in Koutruk village, has left the villagers in a state of constant fear, making their life harder during the ongoing harvest season.

Meanwhile, suspected Kuki militants on Wednesday attacked a Meitei village, located 13 km south of Maphou Dam Police Station in Imphal East district.

According to sources, the incident occurred around 12.35 pm. The Kuki militants reportedly fired around 20 rounds from atop Laikhong Ching towards the village.

Retaliating against the attack, 5/9 GR stationed at Keihao and Nongpok Keithelmanbi, fired upon the Kuki militants. There were no firing from the militants thereafter, sources said.
There were no casualties till the time of filing this report.
