As many as 11 Kuki militants were killed in a gun battle with the personnel of D-20 CRPF at Jakuradhor Karong under Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam district, district around 3 pm while several sophisticated weapons including RPGs were seized.
Before the armed confrontation took place, the Kuki militants approached and torched around five shops in broad daylight at Jakuradhor Karong under Borobekra Police Station.
The personnel of D-20 CRPF deployed at Borobekra Police Station traced the Kuki militants, resulting in the armed confrontation. The 11 Kuki militants were slain during the exchange of gunfire while a large number of weapons including RPGs were seized. One CRPF sustained injuries during the incident.
The bodies of the slain militants are being kept at the campus of Borobekra Police Station at present.
After the incident, five people were reported missing at the police station by their family members. However, they were later found to be hiding to protect themselves from the crossfire.
In the early hours of Sunday, the Kuki militants torched the Forest office at Latingkhal and further bombed houses at Lamtaikhunou.
Around 10 am on Monday, the Kuki militants plundered a fish farm and caught all the fishes at Ahmadabad in Jiribam district. They also felled all the rubber and areca plants in the farm which was run by one Nongmaithem Heramani of Uchathol.
Meanwhile, the Police Control Room, Manipur Police stated that the CRPF Post located at Jakuradhor and Borobekra Police Station (located nearby), Jiribam district were attacked by armed militants about 3 pm on Monday.
The security forces retaliated strongly, during which one CRPF constable, Sanjeev Kumar sustained bullet injury, stated a release. He has been evacuated to Silchar Medical College, Assam and is under treatment, it said.
It said that the attack was fiercely retaliated by CRPF and Civil Police. After 40-45 minutes of heavy exchange of fire, the situation was brought under control, it mentioned.
After the firing ceased, the area was searched and 10 dead bodies of armed militants were recovered along with arms and ammunition. Three AKs, four SLRs, two INSAS, one RPG, one Pump Action Gun, BP Helmets and Magazines were seized, it said. Accordingly, a criminal case has been registered and is being investigated into, it added.
Operations in and around Jakuradhor, under Borobekra Police Station, Jiribam district continues to flush out armed militants, it mentioned.
Reinforcement teams consisting of Assam Rifles, CRPF and Civil Police have been rushed there, it added.
