Manipur Unrest: Village volunteer injured in Sugnu

On Saturday night, houses located on the Sugnu river banks and Sugnu Makha Leikai were destroyed by the attacks carried out by the Kuki militants from the Dongyang side.

Kuki militants continue to attack Sugnu area from Napat under Kumbi constituency, a Meitei area near Manipur River in Bishnupur district which was already dominated by the Kukis by firing bombs and guns on Saturday.

Reports said, at least one village volunteer was injured when a 81 mm mortar fired by militants exploded near Sugnu bridge.

On Saturday night, houses located on the Sugnu river banks and Sugnu Makha Leikai were destroyed by the attacks carried out by the Kuki militants from the Dongyang side.

BSF personnels also retaliated to the attacks carried out by the Kuki militants. No casualties were reported till the firing of this report.

It may be mentioned that Kuki militants have been attacking Sugnu from Lailoiphai and Dongyang area of Churachandpur district since February 14. Exchange of fire continued in the area between village volunteers and Kuki militants. A team of Manipur police officials led by IG Themthing Ngasangva have been looking into the series of gunfights.
