Manipur Unrest: Riot victims carry out peace rally

Displaced people from Serou, Sugnu, Napat and Tangjeng taking shelter in the relief camps from Elangkhangpokpi till Kakching District Headquarter carried out the rally.

A peace rally for restoration of normalcy and resettlement of devastated riot victims was carried out by the inmates in relief camps opened in Kakching district on Tuesday.

Displaced people from Serou, Sugnu, Napat and Tangjeng taking shelter in the relief camps from Elangkhangpokpi till Kakching District Headquarter carried out the rally from Keirak Sanatombi High School till DC Office Kakching and submitted a memorandum to the governor through DC Kakching who assured them to submit the memorandum.

An inmate of Keirak Sanatombi High school, Bungo of Serou, said that the rally was carried out demanding permanent deployment of an IRB battalion in Serou Lamkhai, resettlement of displaced people, compensation for riot victims and setting up a village volunteer force to protect the villagers from Kuki militants. 

Placards with slogans “Go Back Assam Rifles, Compensation for the lost properties, implement NRC in Manipur, Withdraw SoO with the Kuki militants”, were displayed during the rally.
