Manipur Unrest: Gunfight continues in Bishnupur district

Gunfight broke out between village volunteers and suspected Kuki militants in Bishnupur district Tuesday morning around 5 am.

Another gunfight between village volunteers and suspected Kuki militants erupted in Bishnupur district on Tuesday morning around 5 am at Urangphai, Siyang, Pamyang and Chingphei all neighboring villages of Phubala and Ningthoukhong.

As per sources, the gunfight broke out to flush out the Kuki militants from the villages as the farmers could not carry out any agricultural activities at the paddy fields in the foothills.

Bomb blast sounds were also heard during the gunfight.

Assam Rifles personnel reportedly blocked the road near Haotak Kom village by using their Rakshak and Casper vehicles after hearing the sounds of the gunfight. Sikh Regiments also blocked Meira Paibis from entering the area at Ningthoukhong Maning road.

A team of Bishnupur District Commandos also rushed to the area after hearing news of the firing but retreated after the firing stopped at around 7 am.

According to the villagers of Phubala and Ningthoukhong, they saw some houses burning at Pamyang and Chingphei village.
