The Manipur government has reduced the curfew timing for Imphal East and Imphal West on Saturday July 1. On Friday, curfew was relaxed from 5 am to 7 pm in both districts, however, curfew will be lifted from 5 am to 5 pm on Saturday in both Imphal East and Imphal West.
Imphal West additional magistrate N Johnson Meitei stated that there is considerable improvement of law and order in the district. Therefore, curfew has been lifted from 5 am to 5 pm for all areas of Imphal West district, to facilitate the general public to purchase essential items, including medicines and food items.
However, movement of persons belonging to essential services such as health, PHED, electricity, Municipal officials/staff, media personnel and functioning of courts will be exempted from further imposition of curfew after the expiry of the said period of relaxation, the additional district magistrate stated.
The curfew was imposed under Section 144 of the CrPC in violence-hit districts of Manipur. The state has been in turmoil since the outbreak of a series of violence on May 3.
