Manipur Unrest: Armed miscreants attack cop’s residence in Imphal East

At least six persons sustained injuries.

Unidentified armed miscreants allegedly attacked the residence of Additional Superintendent of police (operations) Imphal West M Amit, during which at least six persons sustained injuries on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place around 6.50 pm at the residence of Amit which is located at Wangkhei Tokpam Leirak, Imphal East.

Sounds of gunshots sparked panic among the locality and the neighborhood.

As per sources, some armed miscreants came along Wangkhei road, and forcibly entered the residence of Amit and started vandalising his residential properties.

At least four vehicles (4-wheelers) parked inside the residence were damaged. Bullet marks were seen on the damaged vehicles.

Speaking to the media, Amit’s father, M Kulachandra Singh said, they saw some people with arms shouting and demanding to open the gate.

They forced open the gate and further asked to open the door, he said.

“They started firing when I was about to open the door,” said Kulachandra. There are no enmities with any individual or groups, but my son is serving in the Police, he added.

It is learnt that the armed miscreants reportedly abducted Amit along with two of his escorts. They were later released and admitted at Raj Medicity for further treatment.

Reports said, Additional SP Amit and his escort were released by the armed miscreants at Kwakeithel near Pitambara School.

Meanwhile, two women who reportedly sustained minor bullet injuries by stray bullets were admitted at Shija Hospital.
