Manipur Unrest: 35 arms recovered since Monday

As many as 17 more arms, 12 ammunition and 10 bombs were recovered from various parts of Manipur on Thursday.

As many as 35 arms, including a large number of ammunition and bombs, have been recovered during search operations conducted in the vulnerable and fringe areas of the hills and valley districts by a joint team of the Manipur Police and Central Forces.

According to the Manipur Police on Thursday, 17 more arms, 12 ammunition and 10 bombs were recovered from various parts of the state over the last 24 hours. On Wednesday, eight arms, two ammunitions and two bombs were recovered from Kakching district by the joint team.

Last Monday, three arms with ammunition were recovered from Imphal East while also apprehending those involved in selling the same. Then, while continuing with its search operation on Tuesday in Imphal East, the joint team of State Police and Central Forces recovered seven arms.

Stating that the situation is tense in some places with sporadic incident of firing during the last 24 hours but normal in most districts, the Manipur Police informed that State Police and Central Forces are continuously conducting patrolling, flag marches and cordon and search operations in vulnerable areas of both the hill and valley districts.

The Manipur Police Control Room also said that about 124 Nakas/Checkpoints have been installed in different districts of the state and that Police detained 408 persons in connection with violations in different districts.

The checking at the nakas/checkpoints are intensified round the clock in order to prevent unwanted incidents, the police said.

It further stated that movement of essential items is ensured along NH-37 and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and that a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of vehicles.

The police also appealed to the general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state, to clarify any rumour by dialling rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room, and to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately.
