Manipur Unrest: 18 bunkers destroyed, five arms recovered

A total 18 bunkers were destroyed in Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Kakching Districts by a combined team of Manipur Police and Central Security Forces, the control room said.

A combined team of Manipur Police and Central Security Forces on Friday destroyed 18 (eighteen) bunkers in Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Kakching districts while also recovering five arms, 74 ammunition, five HE Hand Grenades from Imphal East district over the last 24 hours. 

According to the Manipur Police Control Room, situation is tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mob during the last 24 hours. However, the situation remains normal in most districts, they stated. 

During the last 24 hours, State Police and Central forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas in both hill and valley districts. Then, on Friday, 18 bunkers were destroyed in Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Kakching Districts by a combined team of Manipur Police and Central Security Forces, the control room said.

In the last 24 hours, five arms, 74 ammunition, five HE Hand Grenades were recovered from Imphal East District, it added.

It was reported in the newspapers today that armed miscreants had burned down Kongba Maru Laiphamlel, Imphal East yesterday (06.07.2023). However, police have inspected the site and found that the temple and Laibung (prayer hall) were not damaged and only a store room, water tank and a farm shed near the campus were burnt, the Police said.

The Police also said that about 126 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police has detained 270 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.             

Appeal is made to general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state, to clarify any rumour by dialling rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room, and to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately, the police said.
