Manipur: Two held for posting fake video on Facebook

Manipur Police has arrested two men for allegedly creating and posting a fake video on Facebook of getting assaulted and robbed.

Manipur Police has arrested two men for allegedly creating and posting a fake video on Facebook of getting assaulted and robbed.

According to Police, the arrestees have been identified as Iphamayum Ramijuddin, 30 years, son of (L) Md Basiruddin and Heibokmayum Thoiba, 29 years, son of Abdul Hakim, both from Kwakta ward number 8.

In the video, Iphamayum Ramijuddin was seen narrating the story of some unknown persons dressed in black allegedly assaulting him and snatching 500 chicks from him at Phubala around 6.30 pm on Monday.

OC Moirang Police Station received information about the said incident around 10.30 pm on the same day, following which a GD entry was made under GD no. 43/MRG-PS/2024 dated November 4, 2024 and an inquiry was conducted, police said.

During the inquiry, various witnesses were examined and it came to light that the incident was false and fabricated.

On questioning, Iphamayum Ramijuddin pleaded guilty to making up the fabricated story. He also disclosed that the video was recorded and uploaded by Heibokmayum Thoiba, Police added.

Police have arrested both of them for taking up necessary legal actions.
