Manipur police on Saturday arrested two individuals who were involved in stealing an unregistered number while a huge cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered from various places across the state following search operations over the past two days.
According to Manipur Police Control Room, search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.
During the search operations one SMG Carbine along with one Magazine, one Single Barrel, one Wireless Set, two 81 mortar Shell, five 36 HE Hand grenade, two Chinese Hand Grenade, one Dye Maker Grenade, one Stun Shell, two of Tear Smoke Shell, four Detonator and five 9mm live rounds from Waithou Hill area, Thoubal District.
The security forces also recovered one AK 56 rifle along with empty magazine, one SLR along with magazine, one local made SLR along with empty magazine, one .38 pistol along with empty magazine, one 9mm pistol along with empty magazine, one 32 pistol along with magazine empty, one 9mm pistol along with magazine, one 9mm pistol along with empty magazine, one 9mm pistol along with magazine, two HE 36 hand grenades, 20 live rounds ammunitions, 54 7.62mm empty case, one rice sack/bag, one black colour polythene from Eastern side of Heingang Ching, Imphal East district.
One pumpi from Kaprang, Kipmunnuam, Saihenjang and adjoining areas of Churachandpur District were also recovered.
According to the Police Control Room, on Friday, in a follow up of the incident of shooting of a person by some unknown miscreants along the Lamphel Sanakeithel road, Manipur Police conducted special ops at Khuyathong Polem Leikai and Nagamapal areas of Imphal West. During the event, they recovered one Excalibur Rifle, 7.62 mm AR(GHAATAK) without a magazine; One MA-3, MK-II, Rifle with magazine loaded with 14 live rounds.
Further, two 4-wheelers vehicles and one 2-wheeler vehicle were also recovered, the police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
Then, on Saturday, Manipur Police arrested two individuals namely Yambem Gulshan (27) and Philem Jenan Singh (32) from Sangaiprou, Imphal West District. They were involved in the theft of a vehicle without registration number, the police said.
The police also recovered one .45 pistol with 19 live rounds and two magazines, one 9 mm pistol with 13 live rounds and a magazine from their possession.
Stating that the situation in the state has been stable over the last 24 hours, the Manipur Police said that movement of 54 and 256 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police added.
A total of 127 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 98 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, the police stated.
The police also appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room.
The police further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
