Manipur: Two arrested, drugs seized

Nine big packets and one open packet of suspected WY tablets weighing about 11.740 Kg (including the weight of packing materials) (around 80,000 tablets) seized.

The Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Thursday stated that two persons from Moreh were arrested for possession of drugs from Canan Veng Village, Moreh in Tengnoupal district.

The arrested persons are Tongkhohao Haokip ,44, and Jamkholun Baite, 48, both residents of Moreh from Canan Veng Village, Moreh for possession of contraband drugs. Nine big packets and one open packet of suspected WY tablets weighing about 11.740 Kg (including the weight of packing materials) (around 80,000 tablets) were seized from their possession, it stated.

Also, two mobile phones, cash of Rs 400 and one auto rickshaw were seized from them, it mentioned.  A case has been registered for further investigation, it stated.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was under control, it stated.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, it mentioned.

It further stated that the movement of 219 and 255 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations, and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 128 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 313 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

An appeal is made to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumor free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room. Further, an appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately, it added.

Arms and ammunition recovered

Huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered in a joint operation conducted by a combined team of Imphal East District Police and 1/3 GR column in the general area Keihao-Songphil-Laikhong ridges on Wednesday.

As per reports, the operation which started from 12 noon was executed in three phases and continued till 4 pm. Retrieval of sand mining excavators and vehicles which were burnt down on March 17 from hill area near Keihao village by district police and 1/3 GR coln. was done. Subsequent to the retrieval of the burnt down vehicles, a joint Combing Operation was launched to cover both the adjoining hills and the valley at 2 pm by the said teams subsequently leading to significant recovery of the abandoned war-like stores.

The following items were found abandoned at a place about 100 meters north to the area where vehicles were burnt down and the same were recovered by the combined team; they are one Pumpi (6 ft), one Pumpi (3 ft), five Radio Set, seven country made live bomb, nine Ak-47 7.62mm live rounds, 25 SLR 7.62mm fired cases, 21 .303 fired cases, one country made launcher fired case, one 5.56mm INSAS Rifle, one .303 Rifle with empty magazine, one 9mm Pistol with magazine, 38 .303 live rounds, eighteen 12 bore live rounds, one empty magazine 5.56 INSAS Rifle, one empty magazine 5.56mm LMG, two No. 36 Hand Grenade, 28 .303 live blank rounds, 59 .303 fired cases, six 12 bore fired cases, seven tear smoke 135m Long Range, four tear smoke soft nose, one stun shell, one 2 inch mortar finn, one broken magazine of AK-56 Rifle and two 161 MK-III fuse cap were recovered. A case has been registered at Thoubal Dam PS for further legal procedures.

Search operations conducted

Security forces conducted cordon and search operations at different parts of the state on Wednesday but no arrests were made.

A combined team of Bishnupur  District Police and 16 Bn SSB conducted a search operation at Leimaram Mayai Maning Leikai under Nambol-PS, Bishnupur District on Wednesday from 3.30 pm till 4.45pm. During the operation about 85 houses were searched and 184 individuals were verified.

A combined team of Imphal West district police and D/129 Bn CRPF also conducted a cordon and search operation at Khumbong Bazar along NH-37 under Patsoi PS, Imphal West district on Wednesday from 11.45 am till 1.5 pm. During the operation about 165 individuals were verified.

Imphal West district police conducted a cordon and search operation at Thokchom Leikai area under Singjamei PS, Imphal West district on Wednesday from 4.30 pm till 6 pm. During the operation about 70 houses were searched and 120 individuals were verified.

A combined team of Imphal West district police, 1 MR and B/184 Bn CRPF also conducted a cordon and search operation at Awang Leikinthabi Shantipur areas under Sekmai PS, Imphal West district on Wednesday from 3.30 pm till 5 pm. During the operation about 80 houses were searched and 270 individuals were verified.

Kakching district police conducted a cordon and search operation at Kakching Phousupat area under Kakching PS, Kakching district on Thursday from 6.30 pm till 7.30 pm. During the operation about 30 houses were searched and 88 individuals were verified.

In all the search operations conducted, no recoveries nor arrests were made.
