In a recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Simgh briefed him about the prevailing situation in Manipur valley and highlighted the need for restoration of peace in the state.
Biren was summoned by the Union Home Minister on Sunday by sending a charter flight.
The Home Minister had chaired an all party meeting on Saturday to discuss the developing situation in the state where violence continue unabated with intermittent attacks and arson, targeting valley MLAs.
The meeting held at Home Minister Amit Shah's official residence was attended by Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, BJP NE incharge Sambit Patra and the Intelligence Bureau Director.
During the meeting, Amit Shah assured the state government of taking maximum responsibility in resolving the issues and assured that a separate administration will never be possible, Biren said.
The chief minister conveyed the details of the meeting with the Union Home Minister during his one-day visit to the national capital soon after landing at Imphal Airport on Sunday night.
He highlighted the confusion caused by the current situation in the Imphal region, including the arson of properties by mobs, hindrance to security personnel's duties, and a general sense of lawlessness.
Biren emphasised that the prevailing situation has severely disrupted the law and order in Manipur.
As an immediate measure to restore peace, the government plans to engage in talks with various CSOs, stakeholders, and leaders, considering it the last resort to bring about normalcy as advice by Amit Shah, said Biren.
Addressing concerns about the violation of ground rules by certain groups under Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreements, the chief minister conveyed that Amit Shah had assured strict action as per the law against those who defy the ground rules.
To ensure the safety of the public, the government has deployed an adequate number of security personnel to 145 identified vulnerable spots, Biren said reassuring the public that the government is prepared to provide security in specific areas considered vulnerable by the public.
While there have been reported incidents of violence, no casualties have been reported since June 13. The chief minister urged the public to refrain from spreading or believing in rumours, emphasizing the need to maintain calm.
Biren concluded by appealing to the people of Manipur, urging them to prioritise peace over politics.
The chief minister left Imphal on Sunday before noon and came back in the evening. He assured that he will begin consultations with CSO leaders to bring a state of normalcy and peace in the valley soon.
