The first day of the 48-hour total shutdown called by KSO and student unions of Churachandpur district was peaceful on Thursday with all institutes and government offices and shops closed and no movement of vehicles seen, except a few of those exempted ones.
Responding to a query, KSO vice president said that the shutdown has been imposed due to the situation in Moreh. “If the government does not concede to our demands, then we have planned a series of further democratic protests,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights resident Ngahneikim said they will organise a mass public rally on Friday from Leisang Village, Churachandpur to the Wall of Remembrances, starting from 10 am.
She also said that after the rally culminates at the wall of remembrances, they will submit a memorandum to the DC of Churachandpur and will hold a programme. She requested all to make themself available for the said events.
