Manipur: Three-year-old dies in relief camp

So far, 40 deaths have been recorded in relief camps in Churachandpur.

In the latest development of heart-wrenching deaths witnessed in relief camps allegedly due to the paucity of medical aid and lack of infrastructure, another child recently passed away at a relief camp in Churachandpur.

Sources said that on December 30, 2023, a three-year-old displaced child Nemchingthem lost her life due to heart complications; she had been staying with her family at M Songgel relief camp even since they were displaced due to the ethnic violence that broke out on May 3, 2023.

With limited health infrastructure available in the district, she had been left in dire need of appropriate medical attention where she had consequently suffered from heart complications, said a reliable source.

Many Zo displaced persons have been battling with serious and often fatal illnesses since the eruption of the ethnic violence where hospitals have limited capacity and limited medical infrastructure with few available being overwhelmed.

It may also be mentioned that as recently as in September, one-year-old Chinneihneng from Ngoiphal Reller Camp died.

So far, 40 deaths have been recorded in relief camps in Churachandpur.
