Manipur: Three parrots rescued, man detained

According to the convener of JCCWB Ningthoujam Romesh highlighted that a person was detained for attempting to sell the parrots illegally in the market, violating wildlife protection law.

The Joint coordination committee on wildlife and biodiversity (JCCWB) Manipur has rescued three parrots from Singjamei Thong Makhong and handed them over to the zoological garden of Iroisemba, Imphal West on Friday.

According to the convener of JCCWB Ningthoujam Romesh highlighted that a person was detained for attempting to sell the parrots illegally in the market, violating wildlife protection law.

Romesh reported that the team found a post on Facebook about selling parrots illegally which led to tracing and monitoring the post.

Following which, the JCCWB apprehended the man after being traced and monitored  the post. L
Acting on credible information about an impending illegal wildlife trade in Imphal, the team conducted a drive and detained a person from Irong Makha Leikai of Mayang Imphal along with the parrots.

The individual, identified as a juvenile, was handed over to his family after an understanding was reached.
Romesh urged the authorities to address such issues and remain vigilant to prevent illegal wildlife trade. He also appealed to the general public to report any such activities to the nearest forest department and wildlife organisation to ensure action under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
