Manipur: Tangkhul farmers resume harvest with security

A team led by OC Yaingangpokpi Police Station, inspector Yangmi H Shimray provided security to the farmers around 7.30 am and allowed them to safely carry out their harvesting activities till 4 pm.

Farmers of the Tangkhul community resumed harvesting paddies at Sanasabi Mamang Mayophung Khunou Alu Loukon under Yaingangpokpi Police Station with police providing security to them on Saturday, a day after Kuki militants fired gunshots and drove them off from the paddy fields.

A team led by OC Yaingangpokpi Police Station, inspector Yangmi H Shimray provided security to the farmers around 7.30 am and allowed them to safely carry out their harvesting activities till 4 pm. 

As the farmers were working on Friday, Kuki militants attacked them with gunshots around 4.40 pm from atop the Urangpat hill. To save their lives, the farmers abandoned the tractors and other equipment used for harvesting crops and fled from the paddy fields.  

On Saturday, the farmers successfully collected all their harvesting machinery and equipment including the tractors cum trailer as well as the harvested paddy around 4 pm.

Considering that there is a large amount of harvesting work to be completed, the farmers have expressed their wishes that the Police continue providing security to them.
