With no authority concerned paying any attention to the genuine plight of the people, Raphei Katamnao Long stepped in and started repairing the deplorable Ukhrul to Jessami National Highway-202.
People who commute along this lifeline have been facing immense hardships due to the poor condition of the road. The repairing works were done at the routes which require urgent makeover.
The student body had apprised the prevailing road condition of the highway to the authority concerned. However, no attention was reportedly given even as the public had raised numerous complaints.
President RKL Somipam Wungrai Vashum expressed that the National Highway Infrastructure Development Limited (NHIDCL) is yet to take note of the road condition. Sensing that waiting for them to initiate the work would bring more inconveniences to the populace, RKL invited owners of the shops to contribute their shares in the repairing as most of the goods carrying trucks were for their shops, he said.
The road was made worse by the trucks which pass along the Ukhrul-Jessami highway via Nagaland, he added. He further expressed his gratitude to the shop owners for their helping hands.
The repairing works started from Langtang village to Razai, near Kharasom village in north of Ukhrul district. The repair is being done in two phases.
Recently, the Imphal Free Press had reported the grim situation facing the people of the area and vehicles which ply along this route on a daily basis due to the pathetic condition of the road. In many routes, the road has developed cracks and filled with potholes. This had greatly inconvenienced the public.
